FIRST GRADE NEWS 3-11-22

Hi! We started off this week with a big SPLASH! The Y field trip was a huge success. The kids had a blast and were so well behaved. We have three more Mondays! Please continue to send swim suits and towels each Monday.

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS

We researched a rain forest animal with our peer helpers. We then used that information to write a report on the animal. They are hanging in the hall. We drew illustrations to go with them. We wrote about reasons we are lucky and wishes we have for people.

We are practicing our fluent reading during play rehearsal each day. We are also reading lots of Dr. Seuss, rain forest and leprechaun books. Thank you to those of you that make sure your child reads his/her book each night. It shows!

MATH

We practicing writing fact families. We are trying to be able to take three numbers and quickly be able to write four numbers sentences with them changing from addition to subtraction easily. For example: With the numbers 2, 4, and 6 you can say 2+4=6, 4+2=6, 6-2=4 and 6-4=2.

BACKWARDS NUMBERS AND LETTERS

We have practiced writing our numbers and letters multiples of times. We have tried fixing our mistakes when we write them backwards. We have number and letter lines to look at. We are now at the point of the year that if we see a backwards number or letter it earns a homework practice paper. Hopefully, the extra practice will help.
