First Grade Newsletter 10-13-23

Hi! It's been a great, short week. We learned a little about the artist, Edvard Munch. His painting, The Scream, is well known. The first graders painted their own version of it. They then wrote about things that "scared" them enough to scream. You will get to see them after the play on October 31st.

We finished our second unit in Math. We start unit three after we do a quick check in on skills Monday and Tuesday. We will be working with doubles in unit three in case you want to help your child get ahead on them.

Our UFLI unit this week was a review of short a, i and o. The kids did awesome on it! Next week we will work with the short u sound.

We are almost finished with our chapter book series, The Pixie Tricks. As a response to the books, we will be making fairy houses along the path behind the school on the morning of Thursday, October 26th. If you have any plastic beach tools, garden tools or gloves feel free to send them in with your child that day.

We rewrote the book, Shake Dem Halloween Bones. Our version is called, Shake Dem First Grade Bones. It's another surprise for after the play.

We will NOT be wearing our costumes to school on Halloween. Students will have the chance to show off their costumes at our school Hullabaloo on Friday, Oct. 27th. We have too many special things already going on. We don't want costumes ruined or forgotten at school.
