First Grade News and Pics 11-22-24

Hi! It was great to be back with the kids after being away at a conference, The Regulated Classroom. It was a fantastic learning experience. I have lots of new ideas to use in our classroom. The kids had a good time with Mrs. Humphrey. They were so lucky to have such a great sub. For those of you that don't know her, Mrs. Humphrey worked here at VCS for many years. She just retired from being our third grade teacher last year. They made tie-dye turkeys and wrote about their new pet together (and lots of other things).

We've been writing in a thankful journal all month. Check out what some of the kids have written so far. They are precious! We will continue this journal in December.

Dragon Masters is a huge hit! We are on book five already. There are 25 books. If you are looking for a holiday gift for your child that would totally shock them, I was just emailed a link to get Dragon Masters t-shirts and sweatshirts. I thought I'd share it with you in case you wanted it. The Dragon Wagon link. Tracey West, author, runs The Dragon Wagon for her community.

We worked with partners to read our own directions to decorate turkeys. It was tricky but they came out great! Ms. Ortiz taught a lesson this week. She read the book, The Table, and had the kids write about what they would be serving at their table and why. They had a great discussion on being generous and kind.

Monday and Tuesday are Career Days. We have lots of great presenters coming for the kids to listen to and work with. Monday is dress like a professional day. This can be anything your child wants to wear that relates to a career. For example, sports wear works for people wanting to be a professional athlete or a PE teacher. Don't stress over it. It's just for fun. Take your child's lead on it.
