First Grade News 9-10-21

Hi! We have had a super fun four days! We are still learning our new routine and being introduced to each subject. We started using our chrome books!! We have used Prodigy, Epic and Literacy Footprints. It's so exciting to have our own computer to use! We will continue learning about our new routines next week and add friendship into our theme.

Reading and Language Arts

We have been reading LOTS of Big Books together. These are books that allow everyone to see and interact with easily because they are so big. We've been learning reading strategies, sight words, punctuation, word families, compound words, contractions and more. We also use charts of songs to do this with.

We took one of our favorite big books, Mrs. Wishy-Washy, and rewrote it to First Grade Wishy-Washy. We had fun painting with water and "mud" for the illustrations of this book. We also rewrote a book called A My Name is Alice. We'll bring this books home next week to share with you.

We worked with the days of the week. We wrote a book called My Week. We practiced the ay words. We read Cookie's Week and learned a new song. Mrs. Logan was in on Thursday afternoon and taught us how to say the days of the week in sign language.

We are working on the short a sound in our Spelling Books. We are also learning how to find pages in a book and read directions when using an activity book.

Math

We learned three new games: Number Squeeze, Penny/Dice and Bunny Hop. Ask your child about them. We practice each day counting up and back to 100 by 1,2,5 and 10. We also practice understanding the words before and after when asked what the number is before or after a given number. Any help with this  at home would be great.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

Thank you for the help with the baby pictures and names. We had fun guessing who was who today and hearing how everyone got their names.

We got grapes in the Guess Box! Ask your child why. :)

Don't forget to send in an extra outfit for your child to keep in his/her locker. You never know when they will get hot, cold or a mud puddle might jump on them. ;)

Please make sure your child has extra masks each day. They sometimes get wet and need to be changed.

We would love to have some extra masks donated to the room, size small. Disposable ones would be great if they come in a small size.

If you haven't signed your child up for pool testing, there is still time. Please consider it.

Picture Day is Thursday, September 16th.

Book orders are due September 17 (next Friday).

Happy Weekend!
